Beehive Farewell & Workshop Next Week
While having enjoyed hosting our beehive on the roof of the 450 Sutter Building, we have made the decision to remove our hive next week now that their first honey harvest has been completed. Due to COVID19, many medical offices (but especially dental practices) require keeping their office windows open for greater air circulation.
We've had a handful of instances where bees returning to the hive (weighed down with pollen) have been blown in by the wind. Despite their docile nature (Italian honey bees were chosen for 450 Sutter for this reason), we do not want to further alarm our tenants, their patients or their staff.
Fortunately, this is not the end of our relationship with Alveole or the bees. We will continue to sponsor our beehive at another location in San Francisco while continuing to host workshops for 450 Sutter Tenants about how beneficial and necessary bees are to our urban environment.
Our first workshop will be held next week on Thursday, August 20th from 12pm - 1pm where you'll be able to meet our beekeeper Quentin and ask him any question(s) you may have. Quentin is a wealth of knowledge so please attend if you can (feel free to invite the kids!). Our beehive has just produced it's first batch of honey, which will be delivered to Tenants today. If your suite did not get a jar this time, you will be included in the next harvest (each harvest produces enough honey for about half of the offices at 450 Sutter).
